My story and inspiration in life
Dr. Vegas Brown, MD, is a distinguished Emergency Medicine physician with deep roots in Sarasota’s Newtown neighborhood. After completing his early education at Riverview High School, he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition at the University of Florida. His commitment to healthcare led him to the USF Morsani College of Medicine, where he not only earned his Doctor of Medicine degree but also served as Class President and President of the Student National Medical Association.
Dr. Brown’s expertise in Emergency Medicine was refined during his residency at Wayne State/Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit, MI, where he was recognized as Resident of The Year in 2008. He holds certification from the American Board of Emergency Medicine and is actively involved in professional organizations, including the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, the American College of Emergency Physicians, and the National Medical Association. In his academic role, Dr. Brown is an Assistant Professor at the USF Morsani College of Medicine and a core faculty member at Brandon Hospital’s Emergency Medicine Department. He has a special interest in wellness and medical simulation, contributing to both education and patient care.
Dr. Brown’s life took a pivotal turn in 2019 when he suffered a hemorrhagic stroke due to cerebral cavernous malformation. This profound experience has deepened his dedication to medicine and has significantly influenced his approach to patient care. Outside the hospital, Dr. Brown enjoys spending time with his wife Olivia and their two children, Sana’a and Vegas. He is passionate about 3D printing, supporting University of Florida athletics, and creating music through rhyming over beats.
